Zone of local government in Nigeria
The zones of local government ( Local Government Area or LGA ) are subdivisions of the 36 states of the Nigeria. They are 774. As for the Territory of the federal capital of Nigeria, corresponding to Abuja, it follows specific rules: controlled by a federal minister, it is divided into several councils of zone .
Description
Each Zone from local government is managed by a local Government council, whose president is the chief of the executive in the zone, assisted elected advisers. Each Zone (LGA) is then subdivided into 10 to 15 districts.Competences of the local Government council are defined in the constitution of Nigeria:
- economic complaints at the State (higher subdivision);
- taxes and taxes;
- maintenance of the cemeteries and the establishments for the disabled person and the handicapped people;
- control of the vehicles other than to engine (bicycles, carts, boats…) ;
- maintenance of the places of markets, carparks, and spaces of public interest;
- maintenance of the roads and drains;
- management of the name of the roads and streets and the numbers of the dwellings;
- maintenance of public transport;
- birth registration, death and marriages;
- census of the houses deprived for the taxes;
- control of the pets and their trade, of the places of food open to the public, and the laundries and other places of washing of the linen.
