Zemmora
Zemmora in rear Arabic RTL زمورة. It draws its name from the Berber word azemmour which means olive-tree. The oléastre or wild olive-tree always populates the forest which surrounded the city and was ransacked by the wild clearings of the colonists and in particular towards north. As opposed to what one believes, the olive and the olive-tree is not a reference for the area as regards economy. The city is located in the Algerian west, in the wilaya of Relizane and itself chief town of will daïra (district).
Hard combat marked the area of Zemmora against French colonialism. The Emir Abdelkader establishes there his Tribe (mobile Capital) with Zemmora where currently the popular quarters of the Tribe are.
Zemmora was always the capital of Flita. The town of Zemora was founded and always inhabited by Hararta. Currently with the rural migration, one finds there of Touafirs come from Ouled Rafaâ, Amamra and Beni Dergoun in particular.
Toponymy
The name of Zemmora comes from the many olive-trees (azemmour into Berber) which counted and counts always the forest of Zemmora and which gave its name to the Zemmora wadi which, him in its turn, gave its name to the city.
History

1868 : Promoted common mixed by the French Colonialism.
- 1986: Chief town of Daïra (district) of three communes: Zemmora, Dar Benabdellah and Beni Dergoun.
Sidi Mohamed El Kébir, the large winner of the Spaniards with El Harrach and liberator of Oran at the 18th century resided at it.
Formerly, it was famous for its sources, its pottery, its honey, its wood and its craft industry in general (weaving, carpet, wool, djellabas, burnous…).
Geography
Zemmora is located at 20 km in the south-east of Relizane, at 150 km in the east of Oran and at 280 km in the west of Algiers. It is crossed by the Zemmora Wadi, from where its name.
Zemmora is built on both sides wadi from which it draws its name.
Its altitude varies from 230 meters (Kaddouri village) to more than 310 meters (the Tribe).
The city is located at the doors of the mountains of the chain of Dahra which extend towards Mostaganem, in the north of the mounts of Mascara and the chain of the Ouarsenis.
Climate
Located with 60 kilometers of the sea the Mediterranean, the city has a moderated climate, with light mountain tendency.
The winters are often rainy, sometimes snow-covered.
Town planning
Zemmora was completely destroyed in 1857 by a violent one earthquake. Currently, it is mainly made up of modest houses.
Only remain, currently, like old constructions, some buildings of the colonial era, the such seat of the administration and other villas of colonists.
