Zantedeschia

The botanical kind Zantedeschia gathers some 8 species originating in Africa belonging to the family of the Araceae . The most known Espèce is Zantedeschia aethiopica , frequently cultivated for decorations of church and the bouquets of bride, more known under the unsuitable names of fixed or of Arum .

The scientific name of the kind was allotted to him by the German botanist Sprengel in the honor of Giovanni Zantedeschi (1773 - 1846), botanist and Italian doctor originating in Vérone.

Like the others Araceae , the plants of this kind are remarkable by their Inflorescence, a Spadice surrounded by large a Spathe decorative with the colors varying according to the species and the Cultivar S.

Zantedeschia aethiopica is fairly rustic. The other species, in particular Zantedeschia ellottiana , Zantedeschia rehmannii and their hybrids and selections various colors (yellow, orange, pink and vinous), are not rustic and must be consequently treated like plants of orangery.
