Yukie Utsumi

Female character of the novel, manga and film Battle Royal. It belongs to the class the 3rd B of the municipal college of Shiroiwa (department of Kagawa) which takes part in the Program.

During the play, Utsumi tried to bring together his/her friends in order to conceive a plan. It had as arms a gun Smith & Wesson 357.

What follows comes from its explanations in the novel and the manga:

Being the girl n°2, she wanted to await her friends in wood in front of the exit. But being alone, it returns later with Haruka Tanizawa. The latter having seen with Utsumi, Niida to kill Akamatsu, it asked him not to take any boy. Thus Yuka Nakagawa, Satomi Noda and Chisato Matsui rejoingne. Yuko Sakaki will join them only later.

They find refuge in the headlight and the barricade. Each one their turn (except Sakaki), they will make the guet in top of the headlight. (end of the explanations).

One will see only Utsumi after Shuya Nanahara could escape from Kazuo Kiriyama:

In film and the manga, it is Hiroki Sugimura which brings back Nanahara for the girls.
In the novel, they are the girls who bring back Nanahara after they discovered it, seriously wounded.

Utsumi takes the load to look after it, it is the first time that it touches a boy. It is it which will explain to Shuya their history since the beginning of the play, it will lock up it with key the door because certain girls were afraid of him.

In the manga, it embraces Nanahara before locking up it.

Utsumi brings together his/her friends after Nanahara have to explain to him how to escape. Unfortunately for it, the death of Yuka Nakagawa caused by Sakaki accidentally (the poison in food was intended for Nanahara) causes the doubt at all. Utsumi test to calm the arguments, vain year. Noda kills them all except Sakaki.

In film, it is Utsumi which completes Noda of a ball in the head.

Its only consolation with Utsumi was the declaration of love in Nanahara. While wanting to bring together her friends, it caused her loss.

More infos

Utsumi was deputy class for the girls. It belonged to the club of Volley ball with Tanizawa. It was in love with Nanahara.

She is played by Eri Ishikawa in film.
