Yoda

Yoda is a fictitious character of the Space-opera the Star Wars . It is very large, even the largest Master Jedi of the saga.

Description

Yoda is present in all the episodes, although it appears only at the end in last film of the saga: the Return of Jedi . George Lucas, impassioned Sanskrit, took again a term of this language to name the character, as it is the case for many others (Vador, Leia…). Yoddha , in Sanskrit, means “warlike”.

To be of small size (0,66 m), green, old of more than 800 years (900 at the end of episode VI), Yoda is one of the most charismatic characters of the two trilogies Star Wars , imposing wisdom, and the respect near the Jedi Masters. The eyes of Yoda were taken again on those of Albert Einstein, for, according to Lucas, “to give him an intelligent and wise air”. In the episodes of the first trilogy, Yoda is pressed on a cane, which was actually for the marionnettist Frank OZ a means of making it move. Its species is not described, but the character of Yaddle, present in the episode I, in fact part.

In films, it is one of, if it is not IT, the larger Jedi Master: its control of the Force is very large. However, having lost its weapon vis-a-vis the Empereur Palpatine, which is in position of predominance at the time of their combat in episode III, he admits his defeat and exiles himself on Dagobah, an inhospitable planet covered with a thick jungle, hidden empire, where Luke Skywalker will come to find it to supplement its formation there.

Yoda is the best warrior of the order Jedi, Master of the style “Ataro” (Form IV), from where its innumerable and spectacular acrobatics. It also uses its great control of the Force to the combat: one sees it striking two guards of the Emperor of a simple reverse of hand, and its capacity of absorption of the Sith lightning is without equal.

It belongs, before its destruction, with the Conseil Jedi. It will be one of rare the Jedi, with Obi-Wan Kenobi, to survive the rebellion of the clones, which follow the Ordre 66 given by the Empereur Palpatine.

Yoda is before a whole teacher, and forms the Jedi futures. It thus formed five padawan known to date, Dooku, Mace Windu, Ki-Adi-Mundi, Ikrit, and finally its last padawan: Luke Skywalker .

History detailed through films

Episode I: the phantom Threat

One learns the big role there from Yoda to the Conseil Jedi. When young people Padawan S begin the first stages of the Jedi formation, they do it with the informed councils of Yoda. Much largest Jedi of the Galactic République was exerted with Yoda when they were children. The groups of formation are called clans . When Jedi grow they are, at the beginning of adolescence, associated with a Knight or a Master of the Order to continue the formation in a more personalized way. It is also one of the most eminent members of the Jedi Council. After having discovered the exceptional capacities of Anakin Skywalker (its rate of Midichloriens, indicating aptitudes of Jedi if it is high, is more important than that of Yoda!) Which-Gon Jinn, accompanied by sound padawan Obi-Wan Kenobi, presents it to the Jedi Council. Which-Gon hopes to be able to form it as Padawan, Obi-Wan appearing ready to be recognized as a Chevalier Jedi with whole share (Jedi can have only one Padawan at the same time). More still, Which-Gon regards it as the Elected official, who will bring back balance in the Force. However, the Council, and mainly Yoda which plays a key role there, declare that Anakin is too old for that. It also finds that its painful separation with his/her mother makes it dubious when to its capacities to being good Jedi, without attraction for the obscure side of the Force. However, after the death from Which-Gon, the council reconsiders its decision, perhaps feeling the too large Sith threat to refuse to train a boy with the potentially exceptional capacities (he is perhaps well the Elected official), and entrusts its formation to Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Episode II: the Attack of the clones

The shade of the obscure Côté fell on the Republic and Yoda felt it more and more. The rise to power on the obscure side created a disturbance in the enough strong Force to occult faculties of précognition of Jedi in the important subjects. Feeling the alarming uncertainty of the future, Yoda recognized the need to meditate. The Jedi Council has affected Obi-wan Kenobi to elucidate an attempted murder apparently fomented by the forces of the separatists of the Confédération of the independent systems. A whole army of clones had been secretly created for the Republic, by the decree of Jedi deceased, Sifo-Dyas. Yoda went on Kamino to take effective delivery of the military forces, created for the Republic, and arrived with them on Géonosis to save the survivors of a Jedi rapid deployment force whose mission turned short.

At the moment even where the Army of clones of the Republic started the combat against the separatist droïdes, the War of the clones started. Yoda, acting as a general, supervised the battle from a headquarters. The Army of clones has demolishes the separatists on Géonosis, but much are escaped. Yoda followed its instinct to arrive at an obscure hangar where the Count Dooku had seriously wounded Obi-wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker.

Yoda and Dooku clashed. Initially by the simple control of the Force. Dooku tried to crush the Jedi Master while making crumble part of the roof. Yoda easily pushed back the remains then the Sith lightning unchained by Dooku. It then became obvious that it is the handling of the laser Saber which could decide between them. In a battle époustouflante the two combatants showed an astonishing speed and an agility. Yoda, by its control of the Force, jumped in the air, whirling and avoiding all the blows of Dooku. This last is however escaped by employing the Force to compromise Anakin and Obi-wan again. This first battle of the War of the clones was a victory for the Republic, but Yoda was worried. Too many things had been occulted by the obscure Côté, and perhaps the judgment of the Jedi Order had been dirtied by sufficiency and the arrogance. Not only much of Jedi had died on Géonosis, but the nature even of death was now not very clear to the main old man and wise. While meditating, Yoda had felt that a traumatisant event was going to arrive to the young person Anakin Skywalker. At this time precise, he also heard the voice of Which-Gon Jinn, died with the combat there is already ten years. It was however impossible that Jedi maintains its identity after having formed a unit with the Force, it had heard it.

It was for him another headache dangerous and worrying to solve while the Republic crumbled around him. By the meditation, it could communier with the spirit of Which-Gon Jinn. Episode III: the Revenge of Sith

After years of research, Dark Sidious appeared and put in action its final plan aiming to the elimination of Jedi. Sidious, lord black of Sith, which had escaped for submission to Jedi during years, was in fact the Supreme Chancellor Palpatine. Since its position of increasing power, Palpatine handled the events such as the War of the clones to exterminate Jedi. Once Jedi were dispersed through the galaxy to carry out the battalions of clones, Sidious issued the Ordre 66. The coded order, transmitted to the leader clones of the sections of the army, identifies Jedi like traitors with the Republic. The faithful clones, programmed to obey, then carried out their Jedi chiefs of cold blood. Much Jedi died by this operation.

Thanks to the Force, Yoda felt the sudden loss of life through the galaxy. It was almost like a stab, but Yoda reacts in time to stop the attempted murder against its person. It was on Kashyyyk, the planet of the Wookiee S - one of the many battle fields of the War of the clones - when leader soldiers its troops were turned over against him. One of its more faithful officers, the commander Gree, tried to open fire on him, but the Jedi Master was faster and decapitated Gree and his accomplice with his laser saber. With the assistance of Wookiees Tarfful and Chewbacca Yoda could flee of Kashyyyk and contact the senator Bail Organa of Alderaan.

Yoda, Obi-wan Kenobi and Bail Organa gathered. They were the witnesses of the system of extermination of Jedi and their terribly clever allies set up by Palpatine. An emanating coded signal of the Temple Jedi, required of the Jedi survivors to go to Coruscant, where they would fall into a new trap. Kenobi and Yoda were given to neutralize this beacon mortal before more Jedi are not led to death.

Of return to Coruscant, they infiltrated the Jedi Temple. There, they discovered the terrible obviousness of what had taken place during their absence. The Chancellor was now the Palpatine Emperor, and the promising warrior Jedi Anakin Skywalker was his new apprentice, Dark Vador. As only known survivors of the Order 66, it belonged to Yoda and Kenobi to stop the Sith. Kenobi was sent in the search of Skywalker, now known under the name of Dark Vador. Yoda, for its part, returned visit to the Palpatine Emperor.

Inside the roomy buildings of the rooms of the Galactic Senate, Yoda defied the Emperor. The two opponents delivered a spectacular duel, it could not be about it differently for a confrontation between the most powerful experts of with dimensions luminous and obscure of the Force. The Emperor proved that it was too powerful to be thorough with the defeat. Although Yoda made of sound better during most of the duel, it is found nevertheless beaten by Sith because, during their centuries of rest, Sith evolved/moved, they know from now on the two sides of the Force, whereas Jedi did not change since the last great confrontation between Jedi and Sith. It realized, thanks to that, that direct confrontation with Sith was condemned to the failure. Overcome, Yoda eclipsed precipitately in the depths of the infrastructure of the room of the Senate, which it left while jumping in a speeder controlled by Bail Organa.

Jedi did not succeed in stopping Sith, although Kenobi estropié Vador on the burning world of Mustafar. A new hope will arrive in the form of new-born twins. The wife of Skywalker, Padmé Amidala, was pregnant children naturally equipped with a great control of the Force. On the sanctuary of Polis Massed, Padmé gave rise to Luke and Leia before dying, having lost any reason to live. Yoda, Organa Lease and Obi-Wan Kenobi were pilot of these births, and immediately started to be projected in the future.

Knowing that these children would constitute a threat for the Emperor, Jedi were given to keep their secret existences. The twins were separate, Luke Skywalker was taken along to live in the farm of Lars on Tatooine, while Leia at summer adopted by Bail Organa and his wife, the queen of Alderaan, thus losing the patronym of Skywalker for that of Organa becoming thus Leia Organa. Jedi would wait the time necessary, feeling by the Force when the moment has been just opposed to the Empire. During this time, Yoda and Obi-Wan would study the knowledge of Shaman of Whills thanks to the désincarnée form of Which-Gon Jinn. Both Jedi will have also to flee, and to hide.

Episode IV: a new hope

Yoda does not appear in this episode. It is understood nevertheless that, after the fall of the Republic, it went to take refuge on Dagobah. There, it waited patiently until a new hope emerges and puts an end to the seizure obscure Côté on the people of the galaxy. Its name nevertheless is not mentioned, its character not having been created yet at the time.

Episode V: the Empire counter-attacks

This hope arrives three years after the Bataille of Yavin, guided until Dagobah by a vision of its former mentor Obi-Wan Kenobi, Luke Skywalker discovered Yoda without very the knowledge. Failed on the marshy world, Luke met there a creature as much fairy-like than comic which promised to him to help it. The antics of the creature quickly overflowed the short patience of Luke, but it was there only the first of many tests which Luke would fail.

Revealing itself that it was Yoda, the Jedi Master began the formation of Luke with serious. When Yoda taught in Luke how to perceive the future, a not very encouraging vision of his/her friends in danger has constrained the Skywalker young person to give up his formation. Luke promised that it would return and left precipitately to far to save his/her friends. In the final analysis, Luke failed and had itself to be saved. Yoda has fears that all is lost in the effort to stop Vador and the Emperor.

Yoda, old and the venerated main one Jedi, lived its last years while hiding in the marsh of the planet Dagobah. Nine hundred years old, Yoda had formed of Jedi during eight centuries, and was very powerful in the control of the Force. Among its last disciples are Jedi most important (and imprudent) of the recent history, Obi-Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker.

Episode VI: the Return of Jedi

Approximately a year afterwards, Luke returned to conclude its formation. After having faced the difficulties of confrontation with Vador, and after having learned on this occasion that he was really his father, Luke learned from Yoda that its formation was finished. In the absence of Luke, Yoda had fallen very sick. Whereas it waited peacefully Yoda death brought a lighting to the distant past from Luke: there was another Skywalker. Yoda died little of time after, disappearing physically while its body amalgamated with the Force.

Luke learned that Leia Organa was his/her sister, and it saved his father on the obscure side. With the celebration of the battle of Endor, Luke saw the spectrum of Yoda, joined by ghostly images of Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Anakin Skywalker, his/her father.

The dialect of Yoda

Its way of speaking became mythical: it takes as a starting point Star Trek, where the language Klingon consisted in using syntax Objet, Sujet, Verbe (completely contrary to the majority of the Indo-European languages, which follows syntax Sujet, Verbe, Objet). However, so that certain sentences remain comprehensible, in fact often only the auxiliaries are moved. The formation of the sentences is a resultant of a stylistic figure called Hyperbate .
