Year-dro

The year-dro (Breton standard: “the turn”), or in dro into Breton vannetais, is a Breton Danse originating in the country vannetais.

As much of dances vannetaises (wrinkled,…), it is a dance of arm, contrary to the dances of the mountain (gavotte and more still the dañs Fisel and the dañs Plinn where the dancers are firmly hung the ones with the others).

The step is similar to that of a simple gavotte (i.e. without small steps) but contrary to the gavotte, the arms is not motionless but carries out a movement of rolling up then of unfolding.

Evolution

Like the Crushed-finely, the year-dro drift of the double swings of the Rebirth which, themselves, derives from the old rounds.

Combined with the To haunt-dro, the year-dro gave rise to the Dañs Trikot.

Like the majority of the old dances, the year-dro is a dance in round, the dances in couples ( dañs kof ha kof , “dances belly against belly”) being generally regarded as immodestes or impudic in a company where the clergy dictated the behaviors.

At the end of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century, the fashion and the style of the dances follow the evolution of the company which passes gradually from the community life to individualism. The rounds open in chains, the couples have established among in the dance, the balls with 2 and the dances in couples multiply.

The day before the war of 1914-18, the year-dro sees appearing figures couples some (reversal one towards the other, jump of riding, to make whirl its riding…). After the war, this evolution leads to the Kas a-barh which becomes a dance distinct from the year-dro .
