The bone xiphoïde , or apophysis xiphoïde (also called process xiphoïde) is a bone which is located at the lower part of the Sternum. It is connected to the base of the sternum by the synchondrose sword-tail-sternale.
Like the sternum, it is used as point of anchoring for intercostaux muscles with, moreover, one small diaphragmatic insertion on its posterior face.
In pathology, it is especially concerned with the fractures which can reach it during a violent one shock thoracique.
