Worship of the cargo liner
See also: Cargo liner
The worship of the cargo liner occurred in Mélanésie. Natives, having noted that the radio-operators of the troops on the ground seemed to obtain the arrival of ships or the parachuting of vivres and of drugs simply by asking them in their station radio-transmitter, had the idea to imitate them and built, of their better, false cabins of operator-radio - with fictitious stations - in which they asked for to them-also - in false microphones - the sending of vivres, drugs and other equipment which they could need.
Beyond of an anecdote which lends to smiling, this observation led to new a Paradigme: “ aren't we sometimes led to apply methods by Mimétisme, without real reflection to the cogency of our steps, as a practitioner a kind of magic Pensée alias thought wild ? ”
In addition, wouldn't the use of certain steps or practices in the Entreprise concern a simple surface imitative step, which would be connected paradigm of the worship of the cargo liner ?
Birth in the Islands of Oceania
The island of Tanned belongs to the archipelagoes Vanuatu, located in Mélanésie at the East of the Îles Fiji and at the West of the Australia. Inhabited since millenia by the people of Oceania, these archipelagoes were respectively explored by the Portuguese (1606), the French (1768) and the English in 1774, managing these islands jointly as from 1887. During the second world war, the presence of the Japanese and Americans in the Pacific, as well as the abundance of their equipment and their goods, gave a new breath to the movements and the ideas “cargoists”. The independence of the archipelagoes was done in 1980.
Peter Lawrence wrote, in 1974, in its entitled book the Worship of the cargo liner (PPP 297-298, Fayard editions):
“ the natives could not imagine the economic system which hid behind the bureaucratic routine and the displays of the stores, nothing let believe that the White manufactured themselves their goods. One did not see them working metal nor to make clothing and the natives could not guess the industrial processes allowing to manufacture these products. All that they saw, it was the arrival of the ships and the planes. ”
The movement, the myth, religion or term worship of the cargo liner was forged through the anthropological theories and studies on the ages of the Pacific. It is the amalgamation enters, firstly, the lesson of Christian missionaries of the XIXe century, secondly the abundance of the material richnesses which arrived by boats and later at the XXe century by planes, as well as the mythological beliefs autochtones ancestral confronted with the lifestyle of Asian, of Europeans and American. Mainly, the worship of the cargo liner is the result of three generations of acculturation and assimilation by the white.
In Oceania, the worship of the cargo liner is now a movement, at the same time of social transformations and resistance, vis-a-vis the practices and with the values of the industrialized countries.
Extension of the concept to the western world
Presence of the irrational one
The Irrationnel (studied scientifically by the Zététique) is present in the Western companies.
In 1989, the énarque Caroline Brun published a book, the irrational one in the company , which goes in this direction. The “fourth of cover” announces the color:
- “ Why protest that Descartes makes the law in the company, whereas often Ubu is the king? In their official discourses, the owners speak only about coherence and effectiveness. Whereas reality, it, swarms with concrete examples of inconsistencies and wastings. Behind an openly posted will, it is the irrational one which draws wire from the economic theater. Numerology, Astrology, Spiritism, “outdoor”,… all these techniques were engulfed in the breach of the employers' Cartesianism. The leaders themselves leave free course to their passions, recruit with the feeling, invest on a very favorite, engage and release themselves on a simple intuition. ”

In data processing, one speaks about worship of the cargo liner for the programming Cut-to stick where a programmer borrows an end of code without including/understanding it and hopes that it will make the thing awaited in very an other context. On a higher level, this phenomenon can be also found in the adoption of a method of software development by the project manager.
