World protection of the animals of farm
the PMAF
The PMAF (world Protection of the animals of farm) is a nongovernmental international organization, more commonly known throughout the world under the name of Compassion In World Farming. Association with nonlucrative goal, it works for the development of a durable agriculture, reconciling the needs for the animals, the respect of the environment, the constraints of the agricultural world and waitings of the consumers for the benefit of all.
Historical
Compassion In World Farming created in the United Kingdom in 1967 per Peter Roberts, a stockbreeder of milch cows. Association employs today 40 worker, and counts more than 40.000 members throughout the world. The French office of association was open in 1994 in France, on the initiative of its current president Charles Notin, and of the director of association Ghislain Zuccolo.
Historically based in the Moselle, association has its head office in Metz, and employs 9 people to date. Association lives thanks to the support of its 8000 members and givers, and is managed by a board of directors made up of 8 people who lay down the general orientations of association and are guaranteeing of her good management.
missions of the PMAF
the campaigns
The campaigns of the PMAF are addressed to the public, to the economic actors and to the institutions. Led to the national and European level, they aim at improving the conditions of breeding, transport and demolition of the animals by the evolution of the regulation which frames the methods of agro-alimentary productions, and by the information of the public on realities of the modern breeding.
They also take the form of inciting steps and collaborations with the actors of large distribution, in order to support the diffusion of products resulting from systems of more respectful breeding of the animals, the men and the environment.
Generally, the PMAF gives its support for the durable agricultural steps integrating the animal wellbeing in their definition, and in particular for the organic farming and the signs of quality (Red Label).
research
The animal wellbeing constitutes a growing social concern, as well in the legislation as in the methods of production and the practices of consumption. Far from any anthropomorphism, it matters that it is based on a solid and independent scientific research. The PMAF regularly publishes technical dossiers and scientific reports, being based on the university work most recent in the field of the ethology and the science of the animal wellbeing.
In addition, the PMAF lays out of an expertise livestock dies production by a work of investigation and documentation, and carries out many surveys of ground: transport of live animals, cattle markets, slaughter-houses, breedings intensive, etc
education and training
The PMAF develops educational resources (teaching films, exercises, sequences) relating to the animal kingdom, in bond with the lesson of geography, civic education, biology… Treating particularly animals in husbandries, they replace the concept to be sensitive within the framework of the ethical debates of today, of the equitable trade to sustainable development.
The PMAF also leads education acts near the institutions in load of the application of the regulation protecting the animals (police force, magistrates). She collaborates in particular with the national police on the topic of long transport of live animals, and takes part in the training of gendarmes FREE (Formative investigating relays environment).
