Work of Rochonvillers

Located on the commune of Rochonvillers, the Work of Rochonvillers , one of largest of the Ligne Maginot includes/understands in particular the largest block of artillery (Block 5) of the North-East and belongs to the Secteur strengthened of Thionville in the the Moselle. The work is located between the Petit Work of Aumetz and the Rough work of Molvange and includes/understands two entries and nine blocks of combat:

Description

  • Entered of the Ammunition : in inclined plan, 2 bells GFM, 1 crenel JM/AC47, strongly modified in the Eighties
  • Entered of the Men : out of well, 2 bells GFM, 1 crenel JM/AC47
  • Block 1 : block of infantry with 1 turret machine-gun, 1 bell GFM and 1 bell JM
  • Block 2 : block of artillery with 1 turret of 75 Miss 33
  • Block 3 : block of artillery with 1 turret of 75 Miss R32 and 2 bells GFM
  • Block 4 : block observatory with 1 bell GFM and 1 bell VDP
  • Block 5 : block of artillery with 3 crenels of 75 Miss 29,1 crenel of 135,1 bell GFM and 1 bell LG
  • Block 6 : block of artillery with 1 turret of 135, 1 bell GFM and a bell LG
  • Block 7 : block of artillery with 1 turret of 135 and 2 bells GFM
  • Block 8 : block of infantry with 1 crenel JM/AC37, 1 crenel JM, 1 turret machine-gun and 2 bells GFM
  • Block 9 : block of infantry with 1 turret machine-gun and 1 bell GFM

Crew

The team of the work, under the orders of the Commander Guillemain, included/understood 782 men (including 26 officers) of the 169 {{E}} RIF and 151 {{E}} RAP.

History

The Work was arranged out of PC of war in the Eighties, the entry of the Ammunition disappearing behind a slope anti-breath.

Current location

Although being used more, the work always belongs to the French Army.
