Wolin (island)
Wolin (in German Wollin ) is a island of 245 km ² pertaining to the Poland and located in the south of the the Baltic, off the coast poméranienne. It closes the bay Szczecin. It is separated from the continent by the Détroit of Dziwna (above which a bridge passes) and by bays of Kamieński and Szczecin. It is separated from the island of Usedom by the strait of Świna.
Tourism
The National park Woliński (in Polish Woliński Park Narodowy ) is famous for its natural and geological diversity. The cliffs consist of morainic rises and are inhabited by Pygargue S with white head. The pedological properties of the ground make it possible new varieties of Orchidée S to be present in the park. Coniferous S and Beech S, modelled by the wind, paper the tops of cliffs. Bison S are high in the reserve The seaside resort most famous is Międzyzdroje. In July, a festival Viking takes place on the island.
History
The island is an old colony of the Viking S. Of, it was inhabited by the tribe of Voliniens which lived especially trade. Their capital was Wolin (in the past Jomsborg ), one of the more European big cities of this time (10 000 inhabitants).
The island became Swedish in 1648, Prussian in 1721, and is gone back to Poland in 1945.
