Wish You Were Young stag (album)

Wish You Were Here is the ninth album studio of the group Pink Floyd, recorded with the Studios Abbey Road during first half of the year 1975 and left in September.

This album pays homage to the former member of the group Syd Barrett, which had to leave it in 1968 because of its health issues, dependant in particular on frequent catches of LSD.

This album is the fruit of a palpable artistic suffering in the various titles. Thus in Shine One You Crazy Diamond , the group cries the loss of Syd, which is described like an artist in suffering, a visionary put too quickly under fires of the slope; Welcome to the Machine and Have Cigar criticize the bargaining of the Musique and the musicians (which would have caused the loss of Syd); and the song Wish You Were Here summarizes these two sufferings.

In its original version, the disc was protected by an opaque black plastic, where nothing was registered (with the manner of the white Album of the Beatles). The small pocket was hidden behind this opaque plastic; it represents two men tightening the hand in the middle of warehouses, the man of the right being on fire. The booklet is one of richest group, photographs of quality full with hidden directions.

Anecdotes

  • During the recording of the album, the group received, with the Studios Abbey Road, the visit of Syd Barrett itself. At the beginning, they did not recognize this obese man and with cranium and entirely shaven eyebrows who commented on the song Wish You Were Here like old-fashioned. David Gilmour: Everyone wondered which was this funny large badly shaved bird and the empty glance. I believe being the first to have recognized it… . It was the first time (and for some the last) that the members of the group re-examined Syd since its disappearance in 1968.

  • to create its old-fashioned of the introduction of Wish You Were Here , David Gilmour had the idea to record first once the introduction for then re-recording it while it made it pass on the loudspeaker of an old station of radio to lamps (moreover the whistle of a lamp is heard if one listens attentively).
