With the Rugby with XV, the winger (11 or 14) (left and right) (in English: wing ) is one of the fifteen usual stations. One finds two wingers in a team. It is a player belonging to the three quarters.

Of a smaller gauge, they are in end of line of attack. Their speed must enable them to infiltrate in nonoccupied space to go to mark a test. They are finishers, the best markers of test. In offensive phase, they should not be inevitably confined with their wing and can go on the other side and thus create excesses to pass defense. If they are especially famous for their marked tests, they must be good defenders and platers to defend on theirs opposite but also to prevent the keys (as far as possible) which make it possible the adversary to occupy the ground.

The players playing this station are generally lightest of the backs, less however than the halves of fray. They however have tendency since the beginning them the Nineties with being the fast time and strapping man, like are often the players originating in the islands Tonga, Samoa, which then exploit their inertia to more be able to be stopped once launched. Jonah Lomu is the example more striking of this new type of winger, symbolizing the transformations which the passage to professional Rugby implied. There remain however wingers of more modest gauge playing more on their tonicity and their supports in small spaces: Austin Healey, Christophe Dominici, Breyton Paulse, Shane Williams, Pierre-Yves Lerayer and James Simpson-Daniel.
