Willie Howard Mays, Jr. (born the May 6th 1931) is an American player of Baseball, which played in the major leagues between 1951 and 1973. It passed 22 of its seasons with the Giants of New York and Giants of San Francisco. He was elected 24 times in the team of stars of the National league of baseball and was elected with the Temple of re-elected baseball in 1979, his first year of eligibility. He is the godfather of Barry Bonds.
Professional path
Giants of New York
Mays began its career with Giants of New York. It began with 0 sure Coup in 12 presences with the stick before recorded its first sure blow - a blow of circuit against Warren Spahn of the Braves of Atlanta. In 121 matches it recorded 127 sure blows, 20 produced circuits and 68 points and was elected the recruit of the year. It almost missed all the season in 1952 and 1953 by making its military service in the United States Army. In 1954 it gained its only championship of the average to the stick with an average of 0,345,41 circuits and 110 produced points. Giants gained the world Série against the Indians of Cleveland with 4 victories of at a stretch, and at the end of the season it is Mays which was elected the Meilleur player of the National league. In 1957 Mays gained the Gant gilded for the best acrobat of center, one of the 12 gilded gloves which it gained.
Giants of San Francisco
In 1958 Giants and their rivals the Dodgers of Brooklyn famously moved at the east coast of the the United States. Giants became Giants of San Francisco and Dodgers became Dodgers of Los Angeles, and the teams maintained the competition which they had with New York.
Giants were a poor team between 1958 and 1961 and never gained more than 87 parts over the total of 162 played parts. The April 30th 1961 Mays struck four circuits in only one part and is among the 15 players to carry out this exploit since 1894. At the time of this same part, Hank Aaron of the Brave men knocked two circuits. In 1962 Giants were qualified for the world Series after having beaten Dodgers at the end of the season. During the series, Mays struck 0,250 with 2 doubles and zero blow of circuit and Giants lost the series against the Yankees of New York.
In 1965 Mays had one of its best seasons, with 52 circuits, exceeding its best total of 51 circuits struck in 1955. It also accumulated 112 produced points, 118 marked points, 21 doubles and an average of 0,317. At the end of the season it beat Sandy Koufax of Dodgers to be elected the Meilleur player of the major leagues for the second time.
Mets of New York
After having played 19 parts for Giants it was tranféré with the Mets of New York where it played 69 parts. In two seasons, Mays played 133 parts for the Mets and recorded 7 presences with the stick with the world Series with 2 sure blows. Mays took its retirement in 1973 after the end of the season, and worked for the Mets as trainer between 1973 and 1979.
