William David Coolidge

William David Coolidge (October 23rd 1873February 3rd 1975) was a American Physicien . He was born with Hudson in the state from the Massachussets.

In the first times of its work of researcher for the company General Electric, it carried out the crucial experiments which led to the use of the Tungstène like Filament in the electric bulbs. In 1913, he invented the tube of Coolidge, a Cathode improved for the machines with x-rays which allowed a better visualization of the major anatomical structures and tumors. The tube of Coolidge, which also used a Filament of Tungstène, was a major progès for the medical speciality then being born, the Radiologie, and its basic design is always used.

Coolidge started to work as researcher with General Electric in 1905, then became then director of the General Electric Research Laboratory and vice-president of the company. In 1975 he was elected with the National Inventors Hall off Famed, little time before his death at the 101 years age.
