Will During

William James Lasting (November 5th 1885 - November 7th 1981), known as Will Lasting , was a Philosophe, a Historien and a American writer . He is in particular the author of many articles of magazines as well as Histoire of philosophy ( The Story off Philosophy ), and Histoire of Civilization ( The Story off Civilization ), 32 volumes which he spent fifty years to write with the assistance of his wife Ariel.

After a very pious education by a mother Canadian-Frenchwoman, Lasting starts to doubt its faith by reading Huxley, Darwin, Herbert Spencer and Haeckel and joined the socialist ideas in 1905. It however returns to the seminar in 1909, of which he quickly becomes the bookseller, but in 1911 with 40 US dollars and of great ideas leaves it. He then becomes professor in an experimental school of Manhattan and meets there his future Ariel wife, whom he marries in 1913. The Histoire of philosophy is published in 1921 and it is sold of them two million copies in a few years thanks to a favorable article sold in the NewYork Times. The drafting of the Histoire of civilization starts in 1929 and will gain the Prix Pulitzer for its tenth volume. More than 17 million copies of its books were sold today throughout the world.

During fought for the wage equality between the sexes, the right of Vote of the women and for better work conditions of the American employees. Not being satisfied simply to write on many subjects, it also put its ideas in practice, with for objective making philosophy accessible for all. It has work for mutual comprehension between culture and individuals.
