Wilhelm Maybach

Wilhelm Maybach (February 9th, 1846 with Heilbronn - December 29th, 1929 with Stuttgart) is a Engineer and German Industriel . He is disciple and friendly of the inventive of the Engine spark-ignition , Gottlieb Daimler, with which he worked. He is the founder of the mark of German luxury car Maybach.

Biography

He is born the February 9th 1846 with Heilbronn in Germany in a family from six children. Its family moves with Stuttgart. At 10 years, Wilhelm becomes orphan and is collected by an charitable organization. It follows courses in Reutlinger Bruderhaus, whose director Gustav Werner supports his technical talents.

In 1865, 19 years old, it meets and binds friendship to life with its compatriot Gottlieb Daimler for whom it will work of many years as a inventive of spark-ignition engine.

Inventor for Deutz AG

In 1869, it obtains an employment with his/her friend Gottlieb Daimler like draftsman in a manufacturer of Moteur S German of Karlsruhe, undertaken directed by the engineer at the origin of the Petrol engine , Nikolaus August Otto. They start to design light engines internal combustion, intended for the terrestrial and air vehicles. They develop a functioning engine with the Gas coal.

Three years later, Gottlieb Daimler becomes chief technical officer and joins Nikolaus August Otto to found Deutz AG, manufacturer of fixed gas engines. Wilhelm Maybach follows them in this adventure.

Inventor for Gottlieb Daimler

In 1882, Wilhelm leaves Deutz AG with Gottlieb Daimler which founds two years later a workshop independent with Cannstatt (become since a district of Stuttgart) with the amount of the capital of its shares of Deutz AG. They improve there the Four-stroke engine of the French engineer Beau of Rochas.

Inventor for Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft

In 1890, Gottlieb Daimler founds the company Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft of which he is shareholder with the third, and becomes independent manufacturer. Maybach is named by it chief engineer before resigning the following year due to désavantageux contract, followed by Gottlieb Daimler in 1893 following dissensions with its associates.

It joined Gottlieb Daimler which founds a new research laboratory and of manufacture independent to the Herrmann hotel of Stuttgart or they develop successfully, an engine for car with drive by Courroie equipped with a Carburateur with vaporization.

In 1895, Daimler and Maybach reinstate Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft after a new agreement with their associates to manufacture their engine in series. Maybach develops the ventilated tubular radiator, then the alveolar radiator, revolutionists in auto industry. It then develops a series of five models of engines between 1898 and 1899. They create in 1897 the Daimler Phoenix been driven by an engine before then present in 1899 the four-cylinder motor first .

Inventor for Mercedes-Daimler

In 1899 it builds the first Mercedes 35 HP of race for the richissime general consul of the Empire Austro-Hungarian and Business man, Emil Jellinek. This one integrates the Board of directors of Daimler and buys the exclusiveness in the trade-mark laws and the patents technical to successfully resell them in Austria-Hungary, in France, Belgium and with the the United States in its concessions under the name of his/her oldest daughter Mercedes .

The following year, Gotlieb dies; Maybach continues with his/her son and successor Paul Daimler, with whom it conceives the series of the Mercedes Simplex and the cars following for Jellinek.

The Maybach mark

In 1907 Wilhelm resigns after being relegated direction of Daimler to the row d'" inventor in chef". It successfully founds with his son Karl Maybach the mark of car and spark-ignition Engine Maybach. It launches out in the construction of engines of Dirigeable for the count Ferdinand von Zeppelin and later of luxury cars.
