Wild Reeds

the wild Reeds is a French film carried out by Andre Techine left in 1994.

Synopsis

1962, in the South-west of France. Two teenagers, François and Maïté, go to a marriage. A soldier marries a girl of the country there to avoid setting out again in Algérie to make the war there. He asks the mother of Maïté, Mrs Alvarez, person in charge of the local cell of the Communist party, to help it to desert, but she refuses. François meets the brother of called, Serge, who asks him to help it for his French courses. François accepts and, while becoming more intimate with Serge, realizes that he prefers the boys. He entrusts to Maïté which, she, does not feel attracted by anybody and rejects for the moment sexuality.

François is also interested in the companion of room of Serge, Henri. This last, pied-noir, left Algeria where his/her father died. He criticizes the Général de Gaulle and appears pro OAS. Serge is called at the time of a course: he learns that his/her brother died in Algeria. He then dedicates an extreme hatred with Henri, who supports the war, while the mother of Maïté, corroded culpability not to have been able to help it, share in sleep therapy.

Its substitute, Mr. Morelli, seek to help Henri to have the baccalaureat. But this last, revolted by the decisions of de Gaulle and the withdrawal of France in Algeria, decides to leave the city. Before that, he wants to put fire at the cell of PC, held by Mrs. Alvarez. He sees there Maïté, which invites it to enter, and with which he hides his initial intentions. Both discuss and are discovered an attraction.

Wearied to await the results of the vat, Francois, Maïté and Serge decide to go to bathe in the river. They meet on their Henri way, which did not take its train yet. This ultimate scene of estival bathe is the occasion to specify the reports/ratios of each one with the others.

  • the wild Reeds is the version cinema of a telefilm ordered by the chain Arte in Andre Techine, for the series All the boys and the girls of their age… on the topic of adolescence. The telefilm had as a title the Oak and the reed , according to the fable of Jean of the Fountain. It was to include/understand a scene of boom, that Téchiné had forgotten and added afterwards. Another film pertaining to this series left to the cinema: the Cool water of Olivier Assayas.
  • the scene where Gaël Morel repeats in front of a mirror: “I am a Pédé” echoes the scene where Jean-Pierre Léaud repeats in front of a mirror: “Antoine Doinel” in stolen Kisses of François Truffaut.
  • It is the first film where played Stephan Rideau, Frederic Gorny and Gaël Morel. As for Elodie Stop, it was worth the to him César of the best most promising young actress in 1995.
