White square on white zone
" White square on bottom blanc" is an oil on fabric of Kasimir Malevitch created in 1918.
This monochromic work is the first Monochrome and its most famous example. Opening on the infinite one, spiritual search for some, degree zero of painting for others, the monochromic one is a radical result of purification, an interrogation on art and its practice.
Malevitch used two white of different origins: mark French for the square and Russian for the bottom. That enabled him to obtain different “textures”.
