Weather Carryforward

Weather Report was one of the first groups of Jazz-rock'n'roll fusion, and one of most influential.

It was formed in 1971 by the Pianiste Joe Zawinul and the Saxophoniste Wayne Shorter. Both had already belonged to formations with Miles Davis. Wayne Shorter the first, within legendary the quintet of the Sixties (with Herbie Hancock, Ron Casing and Tony Williams).

Shorter and Zawinul remained the two members pillars of the group, while other musicians followed one another their sides.

The success of Weather Report must much on arrival of a young very promising bass player: Jaco Pastorius . Genius and pioneer of the low electric, it contributed to leave this instrument its row of rhythmic to carry it to the row of instrument of soloist. On Birdland, or on Portait off Tracy , Pastorius uses the Harmonique S on low guitar fretless, which was regarded before as quasi-impossible. There remains a major reference for many bass players. He played of Weather Report between 1976 and 1982.

In the beginning, the group counts among its musicians Miroslav Vitous, Airto Moreira and Alphonse Mouzon. Many musicians took part in the group with the wire of time: Peter Erskine, Alex Acuna, Alphonso Johnson, Victor Bailey, Mino Cinelu and even Carlos Santana in their last album.

With the difference of much of groups, Weather Report was always directed towards an overall composition, by creating complex arrangements, sometimes difficult to differentiate from the impromptu parts. Each musician being virtuoso on his own instrument, they were able as well to offer solos inspired as a large work of accompaniment.
