The war of Aceh (1873-1904) is one longest of the history of the the Indies Dutchwomen. This conflict between the kingdom of Netherlands and the sultanate of Aceh in the north of the island Indonesia of Sumatra will end in the conquest of Aceh and the domination Dutchwoman on the whole of the archipelago indonésien. This war will have made 4.000 died on the Dutch side, of which a general, and 25.000 on the side acehnais.

The Treated of London of 1824 between England and the Netherlands defined the respective spheres of influence of the two European nations in the Malayan Monde: the Malayan Peninsula for the English and the island of Sumatra for the Netherlanders. However, the treaty did not contain any restriction for the British trade in the latter. Nevertheless, the English complained about the attempts Dutchwomen to restrict their marketing activities with Sumatra.

One of the clauses of the treaty was the independence of Aceh. Aceh controlled most of the trade of the Poivre. The Netherlanders of the relations queble sultanate sought to develop with other Western nations. The Traité of Sumatra of 1871 will grant to the Dutchmen the liberty of action in connection with Aceh. In exchange, the English saw themselves confirming the right to trade on an equal footing in the the Indies Dutchwomen.

In 1873, discussions take place with Singapore between the American consul and of the representatives of Aceh. This event gives to Batavia the pretext of open the hostilities. The Netherlanders launch two forwardings in Aceh in 1873. Drain-holes bombard the capital, Kuta Radja, and of the troops unload. The palate of the sultan is invested. The sultan dies little of time afterwards. The Netherlanders suspend their military operations then and sign a treaty with the new sultan, who recognizes the Souveraineté Dutchwoman.

However, its subjects refuse to go. The troops Dutchwomen are confronted with a Guérilla. The war absorbs most of the colonial budget. In the Netherlands even, the opinion criticizes more and more the government of the Indies Dutchwomen.
