Wadi Rum
The Désert of the Wadi Rum is in the south of the Jordan, at the border with the Saudi Arabia. At its south-western end, it plunges in the Golfe of Aqaba, on the Red Sea.
Contrary to other impressive deserts of dunes by their remote horizon, the desert of Wadi Rum impresses especially by the verticality of its rocks. Its Djebel S of sandstone varying from the black to the clear yellow, with a prevalence of red, is drawn up with peak, adding to sublime places. These rocks, as planted in the dunes, spouted out approximately 30 million years ago and, since, underwent the weight of time and erosion. It is the oldest known geological layer of the Earth's crust. Today, after millenia of tectonic undulations and wind, they are dug, polished and laminated and rise up to 1854 meters of altitude. It is included/understood why these landscapes were used as decoration with many films, of which Lawrence of Arabia and Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade .
