WGS 84

WGS84 : W orld G eodetic S ystem (world geodetic System) - revision of 1984.

WGS 84 is the geodetic Système associated with the system GPS; it quickly was essential like the universal reference for the cartography.

The preceding achievements were: WGS 72 (associate with the system TRANSIT), WGS 64 and WGS 60.

It should be noted that a geodetic system should not be confused with a type of projection.
