Volvo S40

The S40 is smallest Berline 4 doors produced by the automobile mark Volvo.

There were 2 different models, first was launched in 1995 and the second, his substitute, in 2004.

First generation (1995-2004)

Presented in September 1995 to the Auto show of Frankfurt (IAA), first S40 (as well as the station-wagon V40) is produced from 1995 with the Netherlands in Born in the NedCar factory following an agreement with Mitsubishi Motors.

Indeed, S40 divides its platform and its production line with the Mitsubishi Carisma but the 2 cars remain very different and keep a clean design.

The launching of S40 and V40 Phase II in 2000 brings more changes than it could appear to with it at first sight. This restylée version is more comfortable and quieter grace inter alia to more powerful, more discrete and more ecological engines.

Second generation (as from 2004)

The Volvo S40 new generation was presented to the Auto show of Frankfurt (IAA) in 2004.

It uses the Plate-forme P1 divided inter alia with the Ford Focus and the Mazda 3.

S40 is manufactured in the factory Volvo Cars of Ghent in Belgium with the Volvo V50 and the Volvo C30.

Engines

8 engines are available including 5 gasoline and 3 diesel.

The 2 diesel engines 4 cylinders are of origin PSA/Ford:

*4 cylinders, 1.6 liter of 110 horses.

*4 cylinders, 2.0 liters of 136 horses.
*5 cylinders, 2.4 liters of 180 horses.

The engines gasoline 5 cylinders are of origin Volvo:

*4 cylinders, 1.6 liter of 100 horses.

*4 cylinders, 1.8 liter of 125 horses.
*4 cylinders, 2.0 liters of 145 horses.
*5 cylinders, 2.4 liters of 140 horses.
*5 cylinders, 2.4 liters of 170 horses
*5 turbo cylinders, 2.4 liters of 220 horses.
