Vladimir II Monomaque

Vladimir II Monomaque was born in 1052, it is the son of Vsevolod Ier but it will succeed his cousin Sviatopolk in 1113 like Grand prince de Kiev.

It left a Instruction which is one of the first works of the Russian literature .

It is also known to be an organizer and a remarkable administrator. It was him which based the town of Vladimir on the Kliazma, which will become, in the space of two generations, the capital of the large prince.

Vladimir Monomaque was also an excellent combatant and negotiator. Well before reigning officially, he played a big role in the princely conferences to put an end to the internal conflicts (1097, 1100) or to defend the border with the Steppe (1103). On the ground, he played a great part against the Coumans against which he gained a battle with Salnitsa in 1111. During its reign, it continued to fight and made the war in Livonie, Finland and many other countries.

In its Instruction , it gives a grand total of 83 important campaigns and 200 killed princes coumans.

He died the May 19th 1125 in Kiev.
