Virgilio Piñera
Virgilio Piñera Llera (born the August 4th 1912 with Cárdenas, Province of Matanzas, Cuba - died the October 18th 1979 with Havana) was a writer, poet, playwright and translator Cuba in 20th century.
Biography
Virgilio Piñera is established with Havana in 1938. It obtains in 1940 the title of doctor in Philosophie and letters.
It founds and directs the review Poeta in 1942.
In turn poet, short story writer, novelist, author of theater, translator (Marcel Proust, Jean Giono, Andre Gide, etc), Virgilio Piñera leaves his island in 1946 for Buenos Aires. It is in the Argentinian capital that he writes in 1949 the Flesh of Rene , unclassable novel, which will be published in account of author in 1952. It binds friendship with another emigrant, the Polish Witold Gombrowicz, of which it will translate Ferdydurke .
Virgilio Piñera returns definitively to Cuba in 1958 where consequently it will be in butts with the mode castrist. He dies of an heart attack with Havana the October 18th 1979 in loneliness.
