The term virga indicates any form of Précipitation not reaching the ground.
For example, it is not rare to attend the fall of the crystals of ice constituting a Cirrus - however, these crystals will evaporate before sometimes reaching the ground (in " ensemençant" other lower clouds in the atmosphere), and can thus be described as virga .
