Vine growing in Germany
The vine growing in Germany knows a long tradition. The first vineyards were planted there time of the Romans, in spite of a difficult climate for the vine, then at the time of the emperor Charlemagne and during all the Moyen-âge. They developed on the slopes escarpés of the rivers, primarily of the Western part of the country, on banks directed in the south and protected from the winds.

German soils
The vineyards in Germany extend on 100.000 hectares of which 87% are reserved for the white grapes. With ten million hectolitres produced in 2003, the Germany is the 8th world wine producer and 4th of the European Union. The freshness of the climates makes difficult obtaining a maturity satisfactory of the grapes. The site of the pieces is thus paramount and they are in general light and fruity wines.
