The history of Villeneuvette merges with that of the manufacture, now closed down, which bore this name.
In 1793, the cloth manufacture, founded on the initiative of Colbert, is bought in a state dilapidated by Denis Gayraud, who begins the repairing of it. With his death, Joseph Maistre, husband of the one of the three nieces of Gayraud, heiresses of the company, repurchase the share of his two sisters-in-law.
From this moment, manufacture will be a kind of ideal city functioning under the direction of the Maistre family, with the predestined name, and will become a kind of industrial, economic and social model.
