Villenave-près-Béarn is a common French, located in the department of the Hautes-Pyrénées and the area the Midday-Pyrenees.

Geography

History

The plate of the enclaves is a triangular plate, formed by remains torn off in the Pyrenees, rolled by the glaciers and water. This glacis was notched by old Gave de Gavarnie where currently Adour and Echez run. Perhaps the walkers will see with the turning of a way, " the tree of Noël" , or collector of a puit of oil, invaluable liquid spouting out in the commune. The human presence in the commune is attested as of the Neolithic era, or neolithic age, at prehistoric times. The Hautes-Pyrénées divide, with some departments, the characteristic to have communes whose administrative territory is separated from the departmental territory and find included completely in the close department, it is the case of the commune of Villenave-près-Béarn. The first inhabitants allotted the name of “Billa Nave” to their commune in 1429, “Viellenabe” in 1670, “Villenave in Bigorre” in 1789 and “Villenave close Béarn” in 1790. ¹

The church is the only old building of the commune. It would be about the old vault of the medieval castle of Villenave close Béarn of which there remains nothing. This church was very altered and there remain nothing any more but Gothic archstones of doors employed again testifying of its medieval origins.

One can see the ruins of an old windmill in the west of the commune, on the road leading to Séron. The door of this very rare building in the area would have been deposited with the Massey Museum in Tarbes.
