Villar-Saint-Pancrace (also known like Large-Villar the or Villar , into of Provence alpine: Large Viarar /l gʀã vjæˈra/or Viarar Sant Pancraça /l will vjæˈra sø̃mpãˈkʀaso/) is a common French, located in the department of the Hautes-Alpes and the area Provence-Alp-Coast of Azure.

Its inhabitants are called the Viarans or Vialans (word occitan).

Geography

The village of Villar-Saint-Pancrace, located at the mouth of the Durance and the Torrent of Ayes, is divided into several districts and hamlets whose Villard (or Chief town) is the most important borough. Districts: Cochy, the Flatter, the Tower, Chabon, Soubeyran, St-Pancrace, Sachas, Pâquier, Champrouët. Are there also many vaults: Vault of Penitent (being next to the church), St-Pancrace, St-Laurent, Co.-Bores, St-Roch, St-Jean and Co.-Elisabeth.

There also exists, in altitude, several regroupings of country cottages of mountain pastures where people go up to settle in summer (in occitan alpine meirar or the meirage ): Mélézin (1879 Mr.), Lauzin, Closes it Meadows, Close to the Small valley (1720 Mr.), Foot-Dryness (1960 Mr.), Ayes (1715 Mr.), Towards-the-Collar, Orceyrette, Orcière, Taure (2100 Mr.), Alp or the Are (2200 Mr.).

The Wood of Ayes constitutes one of the most beautiful forests of Pin cembro or arolle ( Pinus Cembra ) of the French Alps. It is about a forest biological reserve.

History

The origins of the village would go up at the time Roman. Villar-Saint-Pancrace, then known as the Largeone was a community of Escarton of Briançon.

Existence of the castle of the Tower belonging to the Lord of Bayle.

Possibility of existence of a beer factory for the period of the Middle Ages near the Vault St Pancrace.

The village knew until in 1987 various mines of coal exploitation. The majority of these mines (in occitan alpine tired will charborièras ) were held by peasants, except for that of the locality the Tower, industrialized and connected to the station of Briançon.
