Viaduct of Day

The viaduct of Day is a railway Viaduc of 119 meters which spans the Orbe on the commune of Vallorbe in Suisse.

Construction

The construction of the Viaduct begins in 1867. Two hundred men were necessary to assemble the two pillars and the Tablier was posed in 1869. Its inauguration took place in 1870. This viaduct was built to ensure the development of Vallorbe, at the border with the France and thus allowing its international expansion.

Today

The viaduct is always used nowadays by the CF, thus its maintenance is ensured by the regular passage of the regional trains of the Vallorbe-Lausanne line and TGV Lausanne-Paris. A footbridge makes it possible to borrow it from foot to join Day since the cantonal road leading to the customs of Vallorbe it Creux.

Environment

On left bank of the viaduct a way making it possible is to follow the Sphere. The viaduct overhangs the lake of reserve of the Stopping of Day.
