Hydrology

The flow of Vière was observed for one 30 years period (1971-2000), with Valley-with-Vière, locality of the department of the Marne, located very close to the confluence with the Chée. The catchment area of the river is of 166 km ².

The interannual medium flow or module of the river with Valley-of-Vière is of 1,34 m ³ a second.

Vière present of the seasonal fluctuations of flow important, with high waters of winter carrying the average flow monthly on a level located between 2,13 and 2,51 m ³ a second, from December to March included (maximum in January), and of low waters of be-autumn from July to October included, with a fall of the monthly medium flow until 0,319 m ³ in September (319 liters a second), which is still acceptable without being severe.

However, the VCN3 can fall until 0,066 m ³, in the event of dry period quinquennial, that is to say 66 liters a second, which is not too severe for a river of this dimension and corresponds to the average of the rivers of the area. The VCN3 is the past minimal quantity or minimal flow over three days consecutive.

In addition the risings without missing are hardly important. The QIX 2 and QIX 5 or calculated flows of biennial and quinquennial rising are worth respectively 5,2 and 6,8 m ³. The QIX 10 or calculated flow of decennial rising is worth 7,9 m ³ a second, while the QIX 20 is assembled to 8,9 m ³. Finally the QIX 50 is assembled to only 10 m ³ a second. (see note). The recorded maximum instantaneous flow was of 8,25 m ³ a second on February 26th, 1997, while the value maximum day laborer was of 7,87 m ³ a second the same day. By comparing the first of these figures with the values of the various QIX of the river, it appears that this rising even was of a vicennial nature and thus by no means exceptional. One can consider that it is intended to on average repeat the every 12-15 years.

The Lame of water past in the basin of Vière is of 255 millimetres annually, which is moderate, rather definitely lower than the overall average of France, but also than the whole of the group of river of the system Saulx - Ornain, like with the whole of the catchment area of the Marne (274 millimetres). The water blade of Vière is however slightly higher than that of the whole of the catchment area of the Seine (240 millimetres). The specific Débit (or Qsp) is assembled consequently at 8,0 liters a second and per square kilometer of basin.
