Vernacular Language

One calls vernacular language the local language commonly spoken within a community. This term often gets busy in opposition with the term Common language.
For example, when the Liturgie Catholique was in Latin, it was the same one in the whole world: Latin was used as liturgical language vehicular. In same time, the teaching of the religion was done in local language, the vernacular language.
One finds also this Dichotomie in the economic exchanges and of today, where English is used as common language vis-a-vis the multitude of the vernacular languages.
The “vernacular” word comes from Latin vernaculum who indicated all that was drawn up (slaves included/understood), raised, woven, cultivated, made at the house, in opposition to what one got by the exchange. Its direction approached that of indigenous” or “indigenous” words the “.
