Veolia is a French company multinational which employs approximately: 270000 paid in 64 countries. In 2005, the turnover of Veolia was of 25,2 billion euros.

The company is with dimensions with the Bourse de Paris like with the Bourse of New York.

History

Veolia was created in 1853 under the name of general Compagnie of water to Lyon: it is by imperial decree, on December 14th, 1853, that the town of Lyon is committed buying water (: 10000 m ³) under conditions fixed by advance (17 francs the m ³), nonrevisable over 20 years. It is the first time in the world which a water concession was made. Paris will follow in 1860. In 1980, the company diversifies its operations in the water treatment, energy, transport, cleanliness, the real estate and the construction industry.

In 1983, it took part in the creation of Canal more.

In 1996, it created Cegetel, a fixed telephone company and mobile then SFR in 1997.

In 1998, the company is famous Vivendi.

In July 2000, the company is divided into two groups, Vivendi Universal and Vivendi Environnement.

In 2003, Vivendi Environnement becomes Veolia Environnement .

In 2005, Veolia Water carried out a turnover of 8,9 billion euros and employs 71000 people.

Dalkia carried out a turnover 2006 of 6,1 billion euros and account nearly 50.000 paid

Veolia Transport employs 72.000 people

Veolia Transport was the first private operator of trains on the rails of Rail network of France.
