Genesis

The village was created during the Roman Empire. The Romans built thermal baths to benefit from the anti-rheumatic virtues of its spring water.

Thermal spring of Uriage

The thermal spring of Uriage sulphuretted, is chlorinated sodic, and has a concentration molecular similar to that of the human Blood serum, which is single in the world and made it possible to manage them directly in intramuscular injections.

Nowadays, they are indicated to look after the following affections:

  • affections of the bucco-lingual mucous membranes,
  • the Dermatology (chronic Psoriases, Eczema S, dermatoses)
  • the ostéo-articular Rhumatologie and traumatisms (Osteoarthritis S, all forms of rheumatisms),
  • respiratory tracts (Sinusitis S, rhinopharyngites, allergic rhinitides).

The techniques of cure are varied: showers, baths, hydromassages, applications of muds, showers thread-like, aerosols…

Redécouverte at the XIXe century

After the French revolution, the From the Dauphine redécouvrent this water and arrange the village by building there a thermal spa (the first of Dauphine).

Little by little, the village increases and accommodates trade, hotels (neo-classic style) throughout the XIX century, then starting from 1890, a casino and a station of the Tramway (tram of the Railways of Dauphine the (VFD) which connected Grenoble to Vizille and with Borough-with Oisans).

Other activities developed to with it with the construction of a hippodrome, and a course golf course of tennis.

Crisis of the Years 1930

Uriage is a thermal spa very with the mode during the years 1920, but the economic crisis which will touch the France in the Thirties, and the Second world war will put a term at this success. The shortly after the war, the majority of the luxury hotels are resold to make there apartments, the fashion of hydrotherapy grows blurred, involving the village in a crisis.

Uriage nevertheless played a big role for the French Résistance during the war, thanks to the École of the executives of Uriage (to which Hubert Beuve-Méry belongbelonged, founder of the Monde). This school settled in the Castle of Uriage which overhangs the village.

Redécouverte in 1980

Left with the abandonment during thirty years, the village reappears thanks to the construction of a thermal hospital near the station. That thanks to the efforts of the two communes of the Intercommunity association of Management of Uriage . The village finds its charm of antan, with a park for long walks, sports activities (golf, tennis…) and the return of luxury hotels (of which the Large Hotel (HTTP: /www.grand-hotel-uriage.com/) which shelters a restaurant two stars), as well as a casino.
