Uri party
The left Uri (in Korean " Our parti" , complete name Yeollin Uri-dang , hangeul= 열린우리당, hanja= 열린우리黨) is a liberal political party South Korean.
Currently directed by Mr. Kim Geun-tae, there are resulting from a scission, in 2003, deputies of the Democratic party of the millenium remained faithful to the president Roh Moo-hyun.
The political platform of the Uri party stresses the completion of the democratization of South Korea by the elimination of corruption, the economic prosperity and the “peaceful reunification of Korea” (see).
The Uri party gained the legislative elections of April 2004, by obtaining 152 seats (+105) out of 299. But it lost the absolute majority at the Parliament after defeats at the time of bys-election.
After the defection of 23 deputies in February 2007, the Uri party then occupied nothing any more but 110 seats at the Parliament: the internal crises with the party (which would obtain only 10% of the voices, according to the surveys, in the event of general elections) result in considering a regrouping of the liberal forces in a new party, made up around the Uri party. The principal leaders of the party took their distances with president Roh Moo-hyun, resulting from her rows, whose approval rating dropped much. Not being able to be candidate for his re-election, president Roh announced his decision to leave the Uri party before the presidential election (envisaged in December 2007): its predecessors had also left the majority party before the presidential election, so in particular avoiding any controversy on the neutrality of the Head of the State at the time of the election.
On November 25th and 26th 2006, a delegation of 800 people, led by South Korean deputies of the Uri party, in the mounts Kumgang (source went: South Korean KBS arranges, with the following address).
Chung Dong-Young is one of the hopes of the Uri party for the next presidential elections, envisaged in December 2007.
