University of Sousse

The Université of Sousse is a Université based with Sousse (Tunisia).

Created by the law n°86-80 of the August 9th 1986 under the name of University of Monastir , it takes its new name of Université of the Center under the terms of the decree n°91-1999 of the December 31st 1991: it thus ensures the scientific and teaching supervision on the establishments established in the governorships of Sousse, Monastir, Kairouan and Mahdia. She knows a very fast evolution: of 45.000 students in 2001 - 2002, it accommodates nearly 60.000 students in 2003 - 2004 (gathered in 30 establishments).

At the time of the celebration of the Day of the knowledge (July 16th 2004) the president Zine el-Abidine Ben Ali announces the creation of new universities with Monastir, Kairouan and Gafsa. The University of the Center is then divided into 3 and becomes the University of Sousse under the terms of the decree n°2115-2004 of the September 2nd 2004.

The university exempts a range of formations academic and professionnalized in the fields the most varied.

For the academic year 2004 - 2005, the University of Sousse counts 13 establishments of higher education (3 faculties, 2 schools and 8 institutes):

  • Faculty of Law and economic scenes and political
  • Medical college
  • Faculty of Arts and social sciences
  • National school of engineers
  • University of sciences and technologies (Hammam Sousse)
  • Institute of the high commercial studies
  • Institute of higher learning of finances and taxation
  • Institute of higher learning of beautiful arts
  • Institute of higher learning of management
  • Institute of higher learning of the data processing and technologies of the communication (Hammam Sousse)
  • Higher institute of music
  • Institute of higher learning of sciences applied and of technology
  • Institute of higher learning of transport and of logistics

The University of horticulture and breeding of Chott Meriem and the University of sciences and technology of health are attached there.
