University of Quebec in Outaouais
The Université of Quebec in Outaouais (UQO) is a branch of Université of Quebec to Gatineau, Quebec, Canada. The university has also campuses with Maniwaki, Mount-Bay-tree and with Saint-Jerome.
History
The university opened its doors in 1981 under the government of Rene Lévesque (Parti Québécois) even if university courses of level were proposed since 1971 (better known under the name of university Services in Outaouais (SUO).
Known in the past under the name of the University of Quebec with Hull (UQAH), the university changed name into 2002 during the fusion of the cities Hull, Gatineau, Aylmer, Masson-Angers and Buckingham downtown new of Gatineau. The new name reflects the administrative area of the Outaouais in which the university is based.
Each year, approximately 6000 students are registered with the courses suggested. Although these figures are lowest of the network of the Université of Quebec, the number of students continues to climb, gradually increasing the need for courses, programs and resources. There are approximately 175 full-time professors on the campus in addition to the 565 part-time lecturer.
During the 25 last years, the UQO decreed more than 27000 diplomas and is one of the principal contributors as skilled workers of the area with the Université of Ottawa, Carleton University, the Collegial City, Algonquin College and the Cégep of Outaouais.
