The University of Belgrade , in Serb Sr УниверзитетуБеограду/sr Univerzitet U Beogradu, is most prestigious of the education institutions of Belgrade, the capital of the Serbia. Current the Recteur is Professor Branko Kovacević.

The origin of the University of Belgrade goes up with 1808, when, into full rebellion with Serb against the Turks, the writer Dositej Obradović founded the first High School of Belgrade. It was officially created by royal decree the February 27th 1905 and became the first modern university of the Royaume of Serbia. At the time, it was located in the buildings known as of the Capitaine Miša . These buildings, located on the Studentski Trg (the Place of the Students), still shelter the vice-chancellorship of the university.

At the time of its foundation, the University included/understood three faculty S: the mechanical Faculty of Engineering, the Faculty of Right and Faculty of Philosophy. It counts 31 today of them, like 8 research institutes scientist and a college library.

Today, it accommodates approximately: 78000 students, divided between 150 courses, like approximately: 2500 professors, which makes of it the most important university of the Balkans. Since its creation, some: 300000 students obtained a license there and: 12600 left there with a Doctorat.
