The university Paris-II , or Pantheon-Assas University, (frequently called “Assas”) one of the thirteen Parisian universities, is located in the Latin Quarter of the V {{E}} and VI {{E}} districts of Paris. It is the principal heiress of the Faculty of Law of the Université of Paris.

Libraries

The library of the university a library specialized in Right and economy which has the role to serve mainly the students of license and master.

The library extends on three sites: Assas (currently in work), Melun (open in 1986) and Vaugirard (open in 1996). In addition the Cujas center is opened to the students as from the 2nd year of license.

Institute of legal studies

The Institute of legal studies of Paris II, located place of the the Pantheon, makes it possible to the candidates to prepare with the entrance examination at the National school of the magistrature, at the 3Ecole Nationale Sup3erieure of the police force (assistance of police superintendent), in École of the officers of the national police and the examination of CRFPA.

Student movements (trade unions)

Relation with the extreme right-hand side

Several events, of a political nature, marked the university since 1968 and presented it like a bastion of corporations of extreme right-hand side. These suspicions, if they persist today are quite as unfounded as yesterday. The trade union studied majority student is today the Unef, comparable with a force of “left”. Nevertheless, if the university is defended to brood trade-union organizations radical coeds, it cannot deny that it was the theater, during these forty last years of remarkable political demonstrations.

The movement Occident, of obedience anticommunist is prohibited by the French authorities on October 31st, 1968 (dissolution by the the Council of Ministers), following its usual brawls of street with its opponents of “left”. It was replaced by the Groupe union defense (GUD), active “trade union” studying with faculty (corresponding French of NSV (Nationalistische Studentenvereniging)). Although being very few, the members of these groups continued to face the forces representing of the opposed political edge, in particular in connection with the Guerre of Algeria, then regularly throughout years 1970 and 80 until lowering activity at the end of the years 1990. Let us note however that the participation in these elections is very weak: it seldom exceeds 10% of the students, like the majority of the university elections.

Today, the UNEF is always the first organization coed of the University. If the very last elections with the Central Councils of February 13rd, 2007 seem to indicate a bending of tendency: the UNEF and the PLAIN one (student trade unions) indeed lose with them two 5 seats with the profit of Assas.net (nontrade-union association) which gains 4 of them, thus arriving at the same level of representation that the UNEF, the UNEF illustrated itself this year by an exceptional score at the time of the elections to the CROUS (51%), and a historical progression at the time of the elections in UFR, having taken place one month after the elections with the Council Exchanges, by quasi-doubling its number of elected officials. Assas.net also continued its progression. it should be noted that the PLAIN one had not wished to deposit of list to elections UFR.

Missing political organizations

  • GUD acronym of group union defense. The GUD is an association whose emblem is a black rat. The GUD was initially creates in December 1968 by Alain Robert, François Duprat, Patrick Devedjian, Alain Madelin and Gerard Longuet under the Right Union label following the dissolution of Occident. The GUD obtained its first elected officials in February 1969. Its members, called Gudards, illustrate themselves in violent incidents during the years 1970 and the years 1980, in particular on June 21st, 1973 against Alain Krivine in Assas or on December 15th, 1980 at the University of Paris X Nanterre.

As of the end of the year 1950, to face the surge of the children of the baby-boom and to unchoke the historical buildings of the University of Paris, a company of creation of new centers for each faculty is launched. The delocalized university center of Paris 2 in the Seine and Marne names itself: " Institute of Right and Saving in Melun ").

The Institute of Right and Saving in Melun forms integral part of the University Paris 2, like the University Paris 2 fact, from now on, integral part of the Melunais landscape.
