The Union of the center (UDC) is a French parliamentary group made up in 1988 by the deputies of the Center of the social democrats allured by the step of opening impelled by Michel Rocard but nevertheless decided to safeguard the unit of the center family, pulled about between the maintenance in the UDF and the rallying by the left majority. The UDC is chaired by Jacques Barrot. This attempt at autonomy of the Christian-Democrat family is not prolonged in 1993; the parliamentary group of UDF becomes the group of the Union for the French democracy and of the center (UDFC).
