Under-provincial city

The under-provincial cities (副省级城市) are a administrative division in Popular republic of China. Like the city-prefectures, they are located at the level immediately lower than the province or the autonomous region. Their mayor has greater capacities however, since its statute is the same one as that of a vice-governor of province. Such a statute, although lower than that of the four municipalities, which do not belong to any province, is higher than that of the other cities, which are entirely managed by the provinces to which they belong.

There exist 15 under-provincial cities in China: Changchun, Chengdu, Dalian, Hangzhou, Harbin, Jinan, Nankin, Ningbo, Qingdao, Shenyang, Shenzhen, Wuhan, Xiamen, Xi' year and Canton.
