The club is founded in 1896 under the name of Società Udinese di Gimnatica and Scherma . It is a gymnastic club of and fencing. Football is introduced there this same year following the first championship of Italy de Foot-Ball. Udinese registers without much conviction about fifteen players amateurs to take part in it, and gains this first championship of Italy vis-a-vis the ten other participating Italian teams. It was only into 1898 that it Italian federation of football had been created (FIGC), but the championship of Udinese was not approved… Progressivement between 1896 and 1910 with a real starting of the section football in 1910. In 1921, the Italian federation created the first cut of Italy which saw Udinese against VADO finally, the ligurienne team gained the final at the last minute of the prolongations by 1-0. Modification of the name of the club in 1923; the club is renamed Udinese Calcio .
