Notable facts

For the second time, the American public finally attended the confrontation of its two champions of the decade with Flushing Meadow. Like five years earlier, it turned to the advantage of Pete Sampras which registered for the third time its name with the prize list of the test, at the expense of holding of the title, Andre Agassi.

The female tournament was gained for the fourth time by Allemande Steffi Graf. Finally, it found on its way its large rival Monica Seles. Prize winner in 1991 and 1992, the American naturalized Yugoslav player returned to the competition, two years after the aggression with the knife of which it was victim. The author one was unbalanced Günter Parche.
