Tswana (bovine race)

The tswana is a race southern African. It bears also the names of bechuana , sechuana or setswana in language Tswana. There exists a very close race called barotse .

Origin

It is a race very old exit of the branch zebu of Bos taurus (standard Sanga). It is present at the Bostwana, in Namibia and with the Zimbabwe since its arrival of West Africa with the Tswana people which had domesticated it. This race gradually absorbed all the others of the area since the 19th century.

Morphology

It wears a black and white dress coils or black, or plain (red or black). The horns are long in quadrant. It presents a trunk lengthened and muscular on fine legs.
Les cows weighs 360 kg and the bulls 480 kg.

Aptitudes

It is an old race multi use, milk supply, meat and leather with its labor force. Today, it is mainly high for its meat. The stockbreeders of European origin selected the individuals to give to the race more productivity.
Elle presents a good aptitude of heat strength and to the diseases and accepts any type of fodder, even poor. Its old past related to the man and the selection operated over several centuries made of it a race of a great docility.
