Trio with piano n° 3 of Beethoven

The Trio with piano n° 3 in C minor , opus 1 n° 3, of Ludwig van Beethoven, is a trio for Piano, Violon and Violoncelle which was composed between 1793 and 1795, published in October 1795 and dedicated with the n° 1 and n° 2 to prince Carl Lichnowsky, one of the first patrons of the type-setter with Vienna.

The Trio n° 3 usually is regarded as the most succeeded of three works of the opus 1, in the tone characteristic of C minor. Contrary to the n° 1 and n° 2 it does not comprise a Scherzo but a Menuet in third movement.

It comprises four movements and its execution lasts approximately 26 minutes:

  1. Allegro idiot brilliance (minor C)
  2. Andante cantabile idiot variazioni (major E flat)
  3. Menuetto. Quasi allegro - Trio (minor C)
  4. Final. Prestissimo (minor C)
