Tram line Munster Schlucht
The tram line of Munster to Schlucht was a transitory line connecting the station of the Company of East (then A.L.) of Munster to the point-border of the Schlucht between 1907 and 1914.
Counterpart Alsatian side of the Tram line Gérardmer Schlucht Hohneck, this line was conceded on May 25th, 1905 with the Elektrizität und Bahngesellschaft Münster - Schlucht.
The layout selected, 10,8 km length used the technology of the Crémaillère, which made it possible to shorten the way compared to a technology by adherence alone. The section with toothed rack, of Strub type, was between the exit of the hamlet of Grossmatt and the center of cure of Altenberg; it reached a maximum slope of 220 mm/m. To the collar of Schlucht, the line finished vis-a-vis the post border, without any avoidance, nor connection with the line of Gérardmer.
The line was served by electric railcars, three mixed adherence + toothed rack and a simple adherence (for the service road of the section downstream Munster - Grossmatt), manufactured by Alioth and SLM-Winterthur. Three trailers and two coaches supplemented the park of the line.
A special power station, installed with the deposit of Munster, produced current 7000 V - 50 Hz, transported to a sub-station located at the foot of the section with toothed rack, where it was transformed into D.C. current 750 V.
Brought into service the May 16th 1907, exploited only at the beautiful season, the line was stopped as of the beginning of the hostilities in 1914 and was destroyed during the war. It was never rebuilt. Only its high part, of Schlucht in Altenberg was used during the war by the Génie French, which for this purpose had carried out connection necessary to the collar of Schlucht.
