Total red

Rouge Total is the fifth album of the Band-drawn saga of XIII of William Vance and Jean Van Hamme.

Summary

At the time of the burial of Henry Sheridan, his son Wally Sheridan is victim of an attack. He is only wounded but the gunner, it, are cut down at once by a sniper.
The Admiral Carl Heideger, the Minister for Defense Stalemate Donnelly, Longman Judge and the Carrington General are stopped at once for complicity of murder, plot against the state and high treason. Documents implying them would have been found at the man who tried to assassinate the Senator. They also have documents connecting them with Jason Fly and the assassination of William Sheridan.
For the army, the operation “ Rouge Total ” prepares, it is an operation army maneuvers during which the army occupies the principal nerve centres of the country. The Carrington General thinks that the goal of their arrest is to allow the “band tattooed” to issue the state of emergency in order to take the control of the country. He thinks that the man who stopped it, Calvin Wax, the adviser of current President Joseph Galbrain, is number I of the organization.

On its side, XIII in company of Betty and Jones are always wedged in Hispanique country and meet Emiliano, which guides them towards its village. It is about a trap organized by colonel Mac Call of the SPADS of which they escape to be found in the hacienda of the Marquis de Préseau who has a Private jet. They take on board the Marquis on board Jet but are found with gasoline court and decide to continue in the car in order to rejoin Washington.
Arrived to destination, they find Colonel Amos who takes them along at Wally Sheridan. This one their advertisement which it will not be to them of a great help because Clavin Wax, become Ministre for Defense in the place of Donnelly, advanced “Red Total” of 24:00 and which President Galbrain is on the way for HS (secret Base of the large Staff) where it must remain during all the duration of the operations.
With Walter Sheridan, they manage to reach HS under false identities but are immediately located and challenged by colonel Mac Call.
Only XIII and Jones succeed in escaping from it. XIII manages to kill colonel Mac Call whereas this one has just posed a bomb with an aim of making accept an attack against the President locked up with Colonel Amos, the Betty Sergeant and Wally Sheridan in the part with coté.
Jones was touched by a ball of Mac Call but only is slightly wounded and XIII manage to release the prisoners.
The thwarted plot, one discovers that Calvin Wax is only number II of the organization whereas it puts an end to his jours.

Epilog :
The people stopped by Wax are all relâchées.
As for XIII, the Supreme court broke its judgment for the murder of Jérémie and Matt Rowland.
And Walter Sheridan became the 44ème President…
