Topoľčany

Topoľčany (Slovak: Veľké Topoľčany before 1920; German: (Groß) topoltschan ; Hungarian: Nagytapolcsány ) is a city of the area of Nitra in Slovakia. Its population in 2005 was of 28.945 inhabitants. The inhabitants are called " Žochári" (sing. Žochár).

Toponymy " Topoľčany" would be derived from " topol" , Slovak Poplar in . Thickets of poplars were formerly abundant on bank of the Nitra river. Recent studies shows that the name would actually be derived from the old man Slavon " topol" meaning " heat, brulant" , in remembering the sources of water heat of use during the medieval period.

Nitrated created between two assembly lines a broad valley, particularly visible from the towns of Tribeč (is) and Považský Inovec (western).
